However the Original Post idea is a good one.
I think one of the strengths of good software, is the ability to do something in more than one way, in that way it may cover more of the unforseen reasons why people need things.
I'm not sure the reasoning behind the idea, but the DTM's don't necessarily remember which points were used to be created. Also, DTM's can be imported data and therefore have no associated points. The DTM may also be modified and no longer the same XYZ as its original points.
An alternative workflow that can be considered is if you have organised the Survey data into Layer Groups (options available under View menu, Model menu and right click in the Layer Manager), then you may have a more organised data set. If you used this concept, you may have then created DTM's based on Layer Groups. Then nominated layer groups can be controlled.
