Thanks Barkley, that did the job. I also tried moving the QAT below the ribbon, so the buttons are sort of in the area I wanted them, this does however force a whole line of screen to be occupied by the QAT and nothing else. I think for flexibility all buttons should still be available in regular toolbars, and also the option to not show the QAT at all would be good.
Also I can't seem to find the 2D/3D split button to add to a toolbar, it's not in the View category, I gave up looking elsewhere, as it's looking like the thing needs a checking over.
Check:
Do all the buttons look the same in the Menus/Toolbars they appear in, and are the descriptions /names consistent.

I recommend using the Quick Access Toolbar both functions you are looking for are available there.
